The RKYHS Sports Management Club had the opportunity to hear from Chaim Bloom, chief baseball officer for the Boston Red Sox. Bloom is responsible for all baseball operations matters for the team. Prior to arriving in Boston, Bloom spent 15 years in the Tampa Bay Rays baseball operations department. Bloom talked about how he started out, his subsequent career and offered useful tips on how to get started in the sports industry—including the type of background skills to acquire for different roles. He stressed that the way you treat people is important, how the people around you and your environment contribute to your success, and the imperative to be able to acquire new knowledge and be adaptable. Bloom answered questions from students about the challenges for the MLB during a pandemic, what he anticipates for the 2021 baseball season, how his Jewish background and values have impacted his career and more.
