RKYHS Students Win First Place in Math Competition

A team of six RKYHS students traveled to Yale University to take part in the “Math Majors of America Tournament for High Schools” (MMATHS). The students made the school proud taking home the first place overall team prize in this extremely challenging math competition! In the individual awards, RKYHS students took home first, third and fifth place.

Until this year, the MMATHS exam was given only on a Saturday, but due to the efforts of Yale students, students from Orthodox day schools were able to compete on Sunday this year. RKYHS was joined by Frisch and Yeshiva of Flatbush for the competition. The competition consisted of individual rounds, a “Mathathon” where they worked with their team to complete as many problems as possible in 75 minutes, and a mixer round where the schools were scrambled and new teams formed, providing a collegial feeling as students worked together on solving tough problems.

In other Kushner math news, the NJ Math League recently calculated the statewide results of a competition the JKHA Middle School students participated in earlier in the semester. The JKHA seventh grade team placed 15th overall in the state and second in Essex County. Additionally, two seventh graders placed first and third in Essex County.
