The MIDlife Band performed Motzei Shabbat at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, inaugurating the secular new year, serving soup, sandwiches and a sing-along of shalom and reut.
Since its inception 25 years ago, the MIDlife band has had 11 members singing and playing on keyboard, guitar, bass and rhythm guitar, saxophone and drums. During the two-hour set, the band performed many of their favorite songs of Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and songs sung in Hebrew by Dr. Michael Tugetman, rhythm guitar; David Lowenfeld, keyboard; David Eiseman, lead guitar; Gary Schwartz, drums; and Ya’akov Weiner, second guitar.
The audience was wowed by MIDlife’s playing their version of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City,” and their original melding of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” with the Israeli song “Shir Ha’asavim,” (Song of the Grasses).
Said Tugetman, “Tonight we celebrate our 25th anniversary and are pleased to be back at the shul where we have played several benefit gigs and to perform for many original MIDlife supporters.”
