RPRY Welcomes Special Speaker

RPRY middle schoolers were privileged to engage in a dynamic shiur from Rabbi Allen Schwartz, rabbi of congregation Ohab Zedek in Manhattan and long-time rebbe at Yeshiva University. Rabbi Schwartz queried the students about trends they have noticed in Sefer Bereishit. The students referenced many key motifs throughout the sefer, including meetings at wells and different kinds of relationships. The one that Rabbi Schwartz highlighted was the dynamic of younger siblings exceeding older siblings. Only at the end of the sefer do Ephraim and Menashe set the stage for inclusive and loving sibling relationships, that are seen later in Shemot, where Aharon embraces Moshe’s role. Rabbi Schwartz connected this message to the special emphasis the school places on kindness and inclusivity in students’ daily lives, such as at recess and how even as adults, people will always remember how they were treated.
