RYNJ first graders have been learning all about emperor penguins in connection with the Tacky the Penguin series by Helen Lester. We learned all about how daddy penguins take care of their eggs while the mommy penguins go to hunt for food. The students were curious about how they walk and carry their eggs, so they practiced walking the way a penguin walks using a football to mimic a penguin egg. They learned that it is hard work to walk like that, but had so much fun doing this activity!
