SAR JV and Varsity Boys Soccer Both Win Champs

Tuesday, May 30, 2023, will go down in the annals of SAR sports history as one of the more memorable and euphoric evenings. The JV and varsity boys soccer teams played in back-to-back championship games at JEC and the Sting came out on top.

The JV team, following a 6-2 regular season finish, played North Shore Hebrew Academy. After defeating TABC on the road in the semifinals, the Sting were ready to take on their Long Island rivals. The SAR players were very prepared and their roster, composed of a strong mix of freshmen and sophomores, was ready for action. They scored a whopping 18 goals in capturing the title.

The varsity team, following an undefeated regular season, played TABC, fresh off a successful 7-1 season. SAR defeated Frisch, 9-8, in a semifinal thriller, behind the stellar play of star senior Gabe Sklar and his incredible eight goals. One game later, Sklar scored five clutch goals in the championship win, extending a three-goal lead at the end of the third quarter and landing an 11-4 victory. Fellow senior Charlie Reich made some tremendous saves in goal, just two months after winning the varsity hockey championship.

The 2022-2023 sports year has been a resounding success for SAR, with championship wins in JV girls volleyball, varsity boys hockey, and now JV boys soccer and varsity boys soccer. Several additional spring sports teams are in the midst of deep playoff runs and Sting Nation anxiously awaits, in hopes of hoisting more trophies.
