Senator Simcha Felder Visits HASC Center

On November 11, the legal holiday of Veteran’s Day, New York State Senator Simcha Felder chose to visit his constituents at the HASC Center Yeshiva Day Hab Program located in the heart of Boro Park. Felder has consistently advocated for and proven to be a staunch supporter of people with disabilities.

The HASC Yeshiva Day Hab Program is a unique environment that combines a “Yeshiva Day” of davening and learning with a rebbe, coupled with skill-building activities and learning relevant life and social skills.

A student of the Day Hab named Yosef greeted Felder and was sure to run through all COVID-19 safety measures with the senator before clearing him to go into the building. Felder was then greeted by Shmiel Kahn, HASC Center’s executive director; Abe Eisner, president of the board of directors; Meir Fogel, coordinator of the program; and Zalman Fogel, the coordinator assistant; and the HASC Center executive staff.

As the senator toured the program, he was impressed to see the men participating in an inspiring parsha shiur given by their rebbe, Rabbi Mendy Salgo. Rabbi Salgo was discussing Rivka Emeinu’s rise from a challenging past and how each person can strive to achieve greater heights.

Kahn apprised the senator of HASC’s exciting new developments, including the acquisition of a new building and the center’s innovative health initiatives.

Before saying goodbye, one of the center’s talented individuals, Dov, offered to play a song for the senator on his flute. Dov played beautifully and was especially honored to play for Felder.

Upon his departure, Felder commented on the evident compassion, dedication and warmth that is exuded by the staff of the Yeshiva Program. Everyone felt honored to have the senator visit, and HASC Center thanks him for being a close friend and wishes him good health to continue to always be able to help klal Yisrael.
