The Shalom Torah Academy in Marlboro hosted a very special grandparents day on Friday, June 8th. The students welcomed 100+ grandmas, grandpas, bubbie and zaidies, and of course, safta and sabas. Some traveled from Brooklyn and Long Island to enjoy the pleasures of seeing their treasures in the preschool entertain the group through song. Mr. Josh Pruzansky, senior director of institutional advancement, introduced the school and shared its rich history during a lovely breakfast. Children then marched into the room excited to see familiar faces in the audience. Following the children’s presentations grandparents were welcomed to the classrooms.
As the grandparents walked through the halls of the school they could not help but notice the immense amount of work that the children did for Heritage Day. This day was done in tribute to the many different cultures represented by the student body. By interviewing their grandparents they learned, and in some cases their parents learned, customs that were observed in the various countries that they came from. In one case, grandparents discussed how they always buried their chametz dishes in sand each year and then retrieved them after the chag was completed.
Every class participated in projects that were geared for the children and grandparents to work on together. Following the morning program the guests were once treated to a delicious buffet lunch, and grandchildren greatly relished sharing their lunchtime with their beloved guests.
