Avi Hirsch, and his company, Shnitzle Builders, has joined the community as an all-in-one home contractor. He does kitchens, bathrooms, additions and interior renovations, as well as custom new homes and full custom renovation. Hirsch and his team also work intensively in roofing and siding. Most of the work is done by his in-house crew of five full-time employees and, as a general contractor, works closely with plumbers, electricians and HVAC companies, all of whom are licensed and insured.
Hirsch learned each aspect of home design in Israel, following his discharge from the Kfir Brigade where he served for just over two years as a lone soldier. He initially learned tiling, continuing to enhance his skills to become a master home builder, with specialties in kitchen and bathroom design. His goal is to get a new house up and running as quickly as possible, with the knowledge that in most cases the purchaser is looking to his builder to be on schedule.
Hirsch initially began to build houses in Eish Kodesh with a team of workers. Originally 35 families lived in this lush area. Clients chose the plot of land that they felt had the best view of vineyards and the Jordan Valley. Hirsch and his crew began by excavating and pouring foundations, framing, electrical work, sheetrock, roofing, siding and tiling. There are now at least 80 families living in Eish Kodesh, and the communities in Binyamin and the Shomron continue to flourish. Building occurs nonstop, and it was there that the idea of Shnitzle Builders was born.
As Hirsch said, “Who doesn’t like a good piece of shnitzle?”
While a chayal on base, he noticed a group standing near the shooting range. They were visitors from the Wish at The Wall Foundation, a Chai Lifeline-organized trip of campers. Immediately he arranged with his commanders to give them a grand tour of the base. He was smitten with the kids and joined the ranks of the Chayainu family, which is the Israeli division of Chai Lifeline. Each year he would fly to the U.S. with the Chayainu group of 20 to 30 kids and bring them to the “happiest place on earth,” otherwise known as Camp Simcha. He became a part of their families and spent many Shabbatot visiting kids who were hospitalized throughout Israel. Each summer since his return from Israel he spends with “his kids” at Camp Simcha, where he conveniently met his wife, Bracha, who is the camp’s head nurse. Throughout the year they organize Shabbatonim in Englewood and Teaneck for the Chai Lifeline kids and return to camp each summer.
