Shopping With an Eye on Details

Nobody wants to spend money on things they never use, least of all clothes that take up space in the closet and never get worn. Sometimes we purchase things either online or in a store that seem like they’re just what we need: a new pair of jeans, a blouse, or a jacket. You try to wear the new item but it doesn’t satisfy you the way it did when you first saw it. You slip into those new jeans, but something just doesn’t feel right about them, yet it’s nothing obvious. You can’t really put your finger on it, but it comes off your body and you decide to wear the old ones instead. You go through the same thing with the blouse or the T-shirt you bought to wear with a blazer and skirt at work. The new one seems like it should have refreshed your outfit, but you can’t get comfortable in it.

While browsing online you may see a jacket that’s gone on sale and it’s by a designer you love but would never consider purchasing at full price. Because you’ve longed to wear something by this designer for a long time, you jump at the opportunity to get it at 60 percent off. By the time it arrives on your doorstep you’ve already figured out how you can wear this jacket to work, pair it with dressy jeans for a girls’ night out or wear it over a simple sheath dress with heels to shul. But then you put it on and you’re more than slightly dismayed. You’ve waited forever to own a piece by this designer. You wonder how you could possibly be disappointed. These mysteries aren’t actually mysteries. It could be that the cut, color or style is just not right for you. Let’s take jeans for example. What could be making you dissatisfied with your newly purchased pair of jeans is that the back pockets are riding low and they’re flattening out your derriere. Jeans with higher back pockets would be the better choice because they’ll give you a more flattering shape.

That new T-shirt that should work just fine under your blazer could be too boxy. You bought it feeling like this latest style should be fine on you. With your jacket on it gets bunched up. When you take your jacket off it feels like there’s just too much fabric there. The one that could be better suited to you might be cut in at the waist—even just slightly—which makes you feel great. It can be hard to spot this detail online or even in the store if you’re dashing through to pick up a few new things.

More than anything, clothes should make you feel confident. The right-fitting ones always do. When clothes fit well and the details are all in your favor, you can forget about yourself and what you’re wearing and go about your day with ease. There are so many decisions to be considered while shopping: color, details, sleeve length, hem length, silhouette. It’s not unreasonable that people make mistakes. I’d like to help you make great decisions. When I’m shopping at your side, the pressure is off you. It’s my job to make sure the garment you purchase is a winner. I’ll help you consider the details that are just right for you in jeans, blouses, jackets or even bathing suits. I’m happy to help. Just give me a call and we’ll do some smart shopping together.
