This year’s worthy honorees are Ruthie and Chazan Shim Craimer of Riverdale, Amy and Dr. Joshua Fogelman of Fair Lawn, Dr. Perla and Dr. Gerardo Yablonovich of Englewood and SINAI alumnus and Bergenfield native Yaakov Guttman. SINAI will also recognize Shimmy Stein of Teaneck with the distinction of Shomer She’erit Yisrael. Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr., CEO, and the Inserra family, of Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., will receive SINAI’s Community Partnership Award. In addition, this year SINAI will present a special tribute in memory of their beloved Associate Director Jacob Weinstein, a”h.
SINAI is known for its moving feature documentaries, which premiere at the dinner each year. This year’s film, “Walking Through Fire,” tells the story of how honoree Yaakov Guttman rose to overcome personal tragedy and significant learning disabilities to become a commander and special forces sniper in the Israel Defense Forces and to save lives as a firefighter in Tel Aviv.
Over the past 36 years, SINAI has served children with complex disabilities from across the region. Each of SINAI’s schools is integrated within a partner Jewish day school or high school, creating a fully inclusive school community. In order to meet each students’ specific academic, social and emotional needs, SINAI creates a completely individualized program for each child. SINAI’s professional-to-student ratio is greater than 1:2 and the students receive a wide variety of cutting-edge therapies to meet their individual needs. The costs SINAI takes on each time it accepts a new student are extraordinarily high. Without significant financial aid, SINAI’s tuition—which is reflective of SINAI’s own costs—is beyond the reach of the vast majority of families.
