Sparks of Life Hosts Vital Parkinson’s Workshops

(Courtesy of Sparks of Life) Alex Kerten, author of “Goodbye Parkinson’s Hello Life” and founder of the Gyro-Kinetics method for treatment of movement disorders, will be visiting New York this October. Sparks of Life Jewish Center for Parkinson’s will be hosting a full-day workshop on Sunday, October 14, for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers to learn his breakthrough technique for overcoming PD symptoms and learning to live well every day.

Alex developed the Gyro-Kinetics method through decades of experience in the fields of movement disorders, posture management, respiratory disorders and physical behavior disorders. His unique blend of martial arts, movement and music differentiates Gyro-Kinetics from other techniques and reflects his broad experience and education. Kerten holds seven martial arts black belts and studied mind-body integration at the Trager Institute. After years of intense physical and mental training, he developed Gyro-Kinetics to help manage symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders. He has been successfully treating clients for over 30 years.

In this hands-on workshop Alex will demonstrate how to use Gyro-Kinetics exercises to methodically build new and better behavior patterns to help with daily life and consciously manage posture and movement to open up new neural network pathways. He will teach how to reverse negative thoughts and see the direct influence on the condition of the body; how to develop mind-body awareness resulting in greater alignment of biochemistry and psychology; and how to build confidence and become motivated to say “Goodbye Parkinson’s Hello Life!”

Parkinson’s is a symptomatic disease; if symptoms are well managed, a person can live a full, happy and productive life. Research has proven that the only known method to fight symptoms and slow down progression of the disease until a cure is found is regular, intense and varied movement that challenges both the brain and body. Sparks of Life is on a mission to bring this awareness to the Jewish community and offers movement classes at its studio in Rockland County. A Rock Steady Boxing affiliate, SPARKStudio offers separate classes for men and women, include boxing, Gyro-Kinetics, voice & music and Osteo-stretch, to fight the symptoms of PD.

As more and younger people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, there is a critical need to educate health practitioners with the tools to help their clients and patients navigate through the symptoms of PD to live fuller and more purposeful lives. In response to this growing incidence, Sparks of Life has invited Alex to give an all-day intensive master training class on October 11 to local therapists and health practitioners. Space is limited and CEUs for five attendance hours will be offered.
