Sports Rabbi Takes His Show on the Road

Sports Rabbi Josh Halickman is a veteran of over 2,000 live sporting events. While living in New York, he held season tickets for the Knicks, Rangers, Yankees and Jets between 1992-2004, afterwhich he made Aliyah with his wife Sharona; he now has three boys. Halickman’s passions include family, Israel and sports—the inspiration for the Sports Rabbi.

Josh is currently the English content writer and translator for the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club, which boasts the only completely bilingual Hebrew/English website in the country (https://www.maccabi-tlv.co.il/en/). Halickman also runs his own Israeli sports English language website sportsrabbi.com.

The Sports Rabbi attempts to create a bond between modern day Israel, sports and Judaism through a fully interactive presentation; he shares stories about Israeli athletes and sports clubs, and relates the colorful history of Israeli sports. This is done by engaging in two-way sports talk with groups of youth and adults in Israel and around the world. Halickman also offers The Sports Rabbi Israel Experience for children on a bar/bat mitzvah trip to Israel; the program can be combined with a mitzvah project helping support Israeli athletes.

Halickman’s Sports Rabbi Project provides a valuable chesed by giving underprivileged Israeli youth the opportunity to participate in afterschool sports activities through formal and informal avenues.

Josh was in the New York/New Jersey area in October for his first Sports Rabbi tour. He spoke to groups of all ages and received a terrific response. The beauty of his program is that it crosses all denominations and age groups, and shows a completely different side of Israel.

The Sports Rabbi will be in the tri-state area again April 6-18.
