Spotlight on Chanan Zaider

Chanan Zaider, who lives in New Milford, New Jersey is 18 years old and goes to The Frisch School. His favorite sport is basketball and his favorite color is brown. His favorite animals are dogs and he plays the guitar. His favorite book is “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy (but I don’t believe him). His favorite thing to do on Monday evenings this school year was volunteer at Teaneck’s iShine, where he was paired with Asher Kratz. They enjoyed telling extremely stupid jokes to each other and had a great year. Wednesday was the last iShine for the year and everyone had a wonderful time.

“iShine is an organization where they pair seniors up with kids and do things together,” Zaider explained. [iShine is a project of Chai Lifeline, an international support network providing social, emotional and practical assistance to children, families and communities impacted by medical crises and trauma through a variety of year-round programs and services.]

Zaider has two sisters; Naomi is 16 and Tamar is 14. Next year Zaider is going to a yeshiva in Israel and then he plans to go to Rutgers University for college.

He likes the Jewish Link because he finds it to have “cool information about the Jewish world.” His favorite part of the paper is (obviously) my articles. “My favorite part of the Jewish Link is Hannah Kratz’s articles (obviously).” But his favorite section is the Kid’s Link. If he had a job at the Jewish Link, Zaider said he would like to be the person who chooses who writes the divrei Torah.

Chanan said he does not have a favorite meme. (Rude.) Asher then asked him which of his feet is his favorite. “It depends on the day,” said Zaider. “Chanan was a really good and fun senior at iShine and I liked having him as my senior this year. We told a lot of dumb jokes. It was great,” said Kratz.

My mom’s friend Daphna Roth is riding in the Tour de Simcha, which is a very long bike ride that raises money each summer for Chai Lifeline (and therefore, iShine). Roth’s fundraising page is www.tourdesimcha.org/Daphnaroth.

Hannah Kratz loves ketchup and salsa and hates all other condiments, especially mustard, but not hot sauce. If you are a Kid’s Link superfan of the month, I ask you to please email us at [email protected].
