Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

What connection can be made between Chag Ha-Aviv, Shavuot, and the month of May? Flowers of course! They’ve only been back at school for a few short days, but the children of BPY Gan Keshet are already immersing themselves in the study of flowers in anticipation of both Mother’s Day and Shavuot. Everyone enjoyed a science experiment to see how water travels through a flower, took a flower apart to see all of its parts, wondered why some flowers have a scent and others do not, learned the difference between annual and perennial flowers and spoke about the importance of pollinators. The children were also quick to note the two different types of flower (flour) and generated a list of other homophones. They also loved hunting for sight word flowers and looked “scent”sational in their flower crowns.
