SRF Holds Suicide Prevention Program

(Courtesy of SRF) Suicide Research and Prevention Training Project (SRF) is pleased to announce an upcoming program in September for parents and caregivers titled “My Child Wants to Die,” on Friday, September 14, at 12 p.m.

This 60-minute webinar will provide step-by-step guidance for concerned parents, starting with the emergency evaluation and continue through aftercare following discharge from a psychiatric unit. While it won’t be able to answer all of the questions parents may have about an at-risk child, it will help explain important aspects of the assessment and treatment process to support parents in becoming better advocates for their children’s mental health care. It will also review parental self-care during this stressful experience and allow for questions and answers with national expert Maureen Underwood, LCSW.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

– Describe a conversational approach to discussing suicide with their children;

– Understand the mental health criteria for “least restrictive treatment”;

– List questions for an outpatient referral source;

– Identify the elements of a plan for safety; and

– Create at least one personal self-care strategy.

Registration options for attending this free webinar include a live presentation with the opportunity to interact with national experts or to register to receive a filming of the webinar.

Programming subsidized by the SRF project. For more information on SRF or questions regarding the programs, please contact Michelle Scott, Ph.D at [email protected] or www.monmouth.edu/srf. Thank you in advance for taking the time to be part of this important training!
