Sukkah Decorating Dos and Don’ts

(Courtesy of The Sukkah Store) The holiday of Sukkot has a beautiful tradition that dates back many years—decorating one’s sukkah. We decorate the sukkah to glorify the mitzvah and to signify that we are treating our sukkah just as we would treat our own home. Below is a composed list of sukkah decorating dos and don’ts that may be a helpful guide to decorating your sukkah this year.

  • Do go for the decorations that won’t fly away with the first gust of wind. Try the tapestry items that come with sturdy ties that can wrap securely onto your sukkah poles.
  • Don’t hang disco balls in your sukkah like you saw on someone’s unrealistic Pinterest tablescape last year, unless you’re aiming for a sukkah-themed disco party, but you do you!
  • Do invite all the people you’ve been meaning to invite for dinner all year! Your art decor/tapestry will be the topic of the night or even a great conversation starter for those awkward meals, IYKYK.
  • Don’t overthink the decor! With the ease of simple art tapestry, you won’t have to worry about hanging that old paper lulav cutout that your past neighbor’s granddaughter’s best friend’s cousin gifted to you at that garage sale.
  • Do order decorations that are weatherproof and machine washable. The weather is unpredictable and you want those beautiful decorations to last throughout the holiday and for many more years to come.
  • Don’t attempt to turn your sukkah into a botanical garden. Your neighbors might start asking for guided tours and membership fees.
  • Do clean out the garage and throw away those old decorations—time to freshen up the look.
  • Don’t order those hanging fruit sukkah decorations you saw on an ad in June, thinking you’d be so prepared for the chag by ordering them in advance. They may show up in time for next Chanukah, leaving you with the only option of gifting them to your friend—unless they showed up as real life rotten fruit!
  • Do check out @thesukkahstore on Instagram or the thesukkahstore.com! There are some beautiful tapestry options and with a few clicks, you can get all your sukkah needs delivered to your door!

Your sukkah is guaranteed to be the queen influencer when you shop at The Sukkah Store. Chag Sameach!
