TABC Announces Honorees for Upcoming Jan. 4 Dinner

Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) will hold its 32nd Annual Dinner on January 4, 2015 at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck. Guests of Honor, Lianne and Etiel Forman of Teaneck, have a long history of service to TABC. Etiel served on the Board of Directors for six years and as Board President from 2010-2011. During that time, he successfully guided the school through the global financial crisis, keeping tuition flat and managing costs without running a deficit. He was also instrumental in launching the school’s recent expansion project. Lianne chaired the annual dinner and has been involved in a variety of school functions and initiatives. Etiel is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Duff & Phelps Corporation. Lianne is Of Counsel to the Law Offices of Jan Meyer & Associates, P.C. in Teaneck. Together, they have contributed a tremendous amount of time, energy and love to TABC.

Norman Blumenthal will be receiving the school’s Service Award. Norm joined the staff at TABC eight years ago as the JV Hockey coach and has since taken on the role of Baseball coach as well. With his quiet determination and love of sports, he has led the JV Hockey team to six straight championship wins. Norm’s dedication to the student athletes is unparalleled and he serves as a mentor and role model, inspiring the team with school spirit, camaraderie and menchlachkeit. Norm is well-known throughout the Teaneck community. He served as vice president of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun, as well as vice president of its Men’s Club. He was a softball coach for eight years at Ma’ayanot and is past president of Teaneck Baseball Organization where he continues to coach baseball and softball teams. Through his role in TBO, Norm has touched the lives of hundreds of young players in our community. He and his wife Lorna live in Teaneck.

Etan Bluman, a graduate of the TABC class of 2006, will be receiving the Alumni Service Award. A recipient of the school’s Middot Award, he served as the first editor-in-chief of The Israel Report and was the managing editor of Kol Torah. He was also a senior mentor and co-captain of both the JV and Varsity basketball teams. Upon graduation, Etan went on to learn in Yeshivat Torat Shraga before attending Yeshiva University. During his college years, Etan worked as an assistant coach of the TABC JV basketball team, was part of the Friday morning Kollel Program and served on the inaugural board of the Alumni Association. After graduating YU, Etan obtained his Masters in Taxation from Baruch College. He is currently a Senior Associate in the Real Estate Tax Services Group at Ernst and Young, LLP. Etan and his wife Kayla live in Fairlawn, where Etan serves as the Gabbai of Congregation Shomrei Torah.
