TABC AP U.S. Government Class Visits NJ State House

Last week, as part of their study of the government of the United States, the AP U.S. Government and Politics class traveled to Trenton to visit the home of the New Jersey state government. In addition to seeing the home of their state government the students hoped to bring their study to life. The first part of the trip involved a tour of the State House including a visit to the Assembly and Senate chambers. The students learned how state government works and some of the differences between state and federal governments. After the tour the students participated in a “Make a Law” activity. After being sworn (affirmed) in, the students debated a law currently before the New Jersey State General Assembly. Should students who are “home schooled” be allowed to participate in public school extra-curricular activities? The students explored all the pluses and minuses before voting on the bill.
