TABC Delegation Impresses at Model Congress

TABC’s delegation of fourteen “congressmen” traveled to the Young Israel of Woodmere for the Yeshiva League Model Congress last week. Students had the opportunity to compose and present bills in their selected committees and to debate the pressing issues facing our nation and the global community. Some of the issues addressed by students included the prison at Guantanamo Bay, emission standards for automobiles, the development of additional nuclear energy plants, the safety record of the TSA, the threat of falling asteroids and meteors, companies that outsource employment opportunities, federal subsidies for the production of ethanol and more.

The students’ efforts were rewarded with distinction. Dovid Fertig ‘17 and Naftali Shavelson ‘17 were awarded Best Delegate honors in their respective committees and Adam Baron ‘17 and Avraham Kahan ‘19 both received Honorable Mentions in their committees. The students learned a lot, were thoroughly engaged and carried themselves with great dignity.
