The TABC JV hockey team traveled to Riverdale on Monday night to take on the SAR Sting in a must-win game. The Storm knew going in that anything less than a victory would end their season and knock them out of playoff contention. TABC came out of the gate playing hard, laying it all on the line. Their efforts were eventually rewarded when they were awarded the first man-advantage of the game. Marty Teitelbaum ’27 put the Storm on the board via the powerplay and TABC led by one at the first intermission. In the second period, sophomore Jake Rubenstein gave the Storm a two-goal cushion after a goalmouth scrum left SAR unable to clear their lines; Rubenstein was the first one to pounce on the loose ball. When these two teams last met in Teaneck, the Storm were unable to protect their two-goal lead and had to settle for a tie. Thanks to great goaltending from Sol Sandel ’27 and defensive play by Jack Salomon ’28 and Dovid Ratzersdorfer ’27, TABC was able to hold on for the 2-0 win and knock off the defending champions. Major credit goes to coaches Tzvika Poleyeff ’12 and Yosef Robin ‘13 for getting the team prepared for this win-or-go-home game. TABC will now face Rambam at home after winter break, knowing that a win will officially clinch their spot in the playoffs.
