The talmidim in Rabbi Wein’s Y2G freshman-sophomore Gemara shiur recently celebrated a siyum on Megillah in memory of Amichai Weitzen HY”D. Amichai was killed in the heroic defense of the town of Kerem Shalom on Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023. His wife, Talya, and her father, David, spoke to the talmidim about the essence of Purim being Kabbalat HaTorah me’Ahavah, accepting Torah from love. This was one of Amichai’s defining characteristics, and he would learn Masechet Megillah with a small group every single year. This year, across Israel and now including TABC, thousands learned Megillah in Amichai’s memory. Let us all daven that in the merit of this learning, the residents of Kerem Shalom will return to their homes in the near future and know true safety and security from all those who seek to harm Am Yisrael.
