TABC Photography Club Hosts Local Photographer, Michael Laves

This past Wednesday evening, during the only the second meeting of the year of TABC’s Photography Club, local photographer Michael Laves, along with his wife Deborah, spoke to students about his experiences in the field. Mr. Laves has been photographing around Teaneck for decades, working with the Jewish Center of Teaneck, as well as photographing local events, families and his numerous travels. Many of his images have been printed in the Teaneck Suburbanite. He offered real-life instructions on how to photograph people, as well as lessons for life to the students. “If we make mistakes, it doesn’t matter. You keep doing it. I’ve been doing it for 25 years. If you find something you like, keep doing it. Keep trying,” Mr. Laves said. He encouraged the students to follow their passion, but also to make sure that they share that passion with their families. “One of the most important things is taking pictures of your families.” His wife Deborah’s father was also a photographer so she has many photos of her family. Her mother was the only survivor of her family during the Holocaust and she treasures the photographic record that she has of her family.
