Last Wednesday, November 29, TABC commemorated the shloshim of Cary Reichardt z”l with a program and a siyum on three sedarim of Mishnayot. Cary Reichardt was the longtime History Department chair at TABC and a beloved teacher. The entire student body and faculty were joined by the Reichardt family to honor the memory of an extraordinary educator and person in the place that was her second home. Many alumni and former faculty joined in person or watched on livestream. Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Joshua Kahn spoke about Mrs. Reichardt’s devotion to her students, TABC and to her family. Senior Ben Reich described her as a teacher who cared about each and every student and knew how to make history fun and challenging at the same time. Alumnus Seth Maza ‘19 described being a member of the first “Bare Witness” program, the theater production which serves as a culmination of the Holocaust Studies course Mrs. Reichardt designed and taught.
Then Rebecca Lopkin and Dassi Silverman introduced a three prong initiative, “Do, Give, Remember” that is being launched in Mrs. Reichardt’s memory. Members of the TABC family have been invited to sign up to take upon themselves a mitzvah for a specific amount of time (“Do”) and to submit a memory or anecdote about Mrs. Reichardt that will be compiled into a book for her family (“Remember”). In addition, this spring TABC will launch a campaign to dedicate something within the school in Mrs. Reichardt’s memory (“Give”). The program culminated with Corey Reichardt, Mrs. Reichardt’s son, and senior Yaakov Beyda making a siyum on the Mishnayot that the school community learned for Mrs. Reichardt’s shloshim. Pizza and fries, sponsored by the Reichardt family, were served for a seudat mitzvah. May the neshama of Chaya Esther bas Kasriel v’Etel z”l have an aliyah.
