(TABC) The TABC Storm basketball teams resumed league play on Monday night, December 18, after enjoying an extended break to celebrate Chanukah. The JV team was up first and played without starting freshman Natanel Bromberg. While sophomore Shlomo Wenger, who started in Bromberg’s absence, was aggressive on the boards, and classmate Yonatan Faber ’26 was able to connect on a few threes early, the Storm still found themselves down by one at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw sophomore standout Shimon Segal explode for 11 points and propel the Storm to a 28-22 lead at halftime. When star player Akiva Borgen ’26 found himself in some foul trouble, fellow He’Atid alum Naftali Hochstein ’26 stepped in, playing a majority of the third quarter off the bench and sinking a floater from the baseline as time expired. The team was able to close out the game in the fourth due to closeout play from Borgen, a good rebounding job from Jack Nordlicht ’26 and a few more dagger threes from Faber. The JV team won by a final score of 53-44.
The varsity team followed as they looked to secure their fourth win in a row. After going down 3-2 early, the Storm were able to mount a 19-0 run that spilled from the first quarter into the beginning of the second quarter. The team held a commanding 21-point lead at halftime due to the unstoppable one-two force of Ayden Gurin ’24 and Eyal Kinderlehrer ’25. Coach Oz experimented for a good chunk of the second half, giving opportunities to juniors Chanan Schultz, Sammy Levine and Yakir Adams who all played a part in the team’s ultimate 63-43 victory. Gurin and Kinderlehrer dropped 19 and 22 points respectively.
