TABC Students Forge Connections to Tzahal

Yael Fish’s 11th grade advanced Hebrew ulpan class recently completed their research project on lone soldiers as part of the army-themed Hebrew vocabulary they learned in class. After watching a video from an Israeli news channel and learning new terms and phrases, each student partnered with a classmate and chose a lone soldier to read and write about, including details about where the soldier was from, his/her role in Tzahal, and his/her plan for the future. The project allowed students to utilize their new vocabulary while forging connections to Medinat Yisrael and the heroes who protect her.

Meanwhile, Rabbi Jachter’s Chibbat Ha’Aretz class enjoyed a Zoom talk with TABC graduate Amiad Callen ‘11. Amiad discussed his aliya, his service in Tzahal as an officer, his learning in Yeshiva, both before and after serving in the army, and embarking on marriage and fatherhood. Amiad’s presentation included a variety of short videos showing the extraordinary lengths to which Tzahal goes in order to save lives. He also used maps to explain the situation on the ground in both Gaza and Yehuda V’Shomron (the West Bank). He even shared some thoughts from the Rambam’s Hilchot Melachim to explain the spiritual side of service in Tzahal. A true ben Torah and major contributor to Am Yisrael, Amiad challenged the students to consider their role in the coming years and how they will make a significant contribution to our people.
