Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Eli Mazin

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 9-year-old Eli Mazin as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The rising fourth grader at Yeshivat Noam was a member of the Teaneck 9u summer baseball team who played in the NEBAS league throughout North Jersey. They came in third in the division, all while playing against travel teams that play together throughout the year. Mazin was the starting catcher and contributed key base hits while calling a great game.

Eli, congratulations on a great season of travel baseball. Who is your role model and why?

My role model is my dad because he always makes time to be at my sports games.

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is baseball.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the flag football championship in 2017.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Saquon Barkley because he is nice on and off the field.

What is your pregame routine, if you have one?

Have a catch with my brother Ari.

What is your earliest sport memory?

Playing baseball in my basement as a toddler.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Being on the travel baseball team three years in a row.

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while playing sports?

I accidentally threw a hockey ball into my brothers hockey game and it went into the goal.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not on the field?

Hanging out with my friends and watching TV.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Getting recognized in The Jewish Link.
