Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Meital Fuksbrumer

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 17-year-old Meital Fuksbrumer as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The senior at the Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls is coming off two championships last year. As a junior she helped the Rapids varsity volleyball team and soccer team. Ma’ayanot soccer coach Marc Zharnest told the JLNJ, “Meital is cool as a cucumber, she is a force in the net and always sees and reads the game well. She continues to improve each time she takes the field, and I look forward to her following up a great year with another one!” Ma’ayanot volleyball coach Chayim Tauber added, “Meital has been a program-changing player in terms of dedication, passion and ability. She was a focal point of the ‘18-19 championship team’s offense and is feared league-wide for her ability. She takes no shortcuts and is versatile—equally adept at making a diving defensive play as she is at devastating opponents offensively at the net.”

Meital, congratulations on the two championships last year. As we look forward to the Rapid seasons this year, who is your role model and why?

My role model is older brother, Yehuda Fuksbrumer. He is a soldier in the Israeli army and I couldn’t be prouder!

What is your favorite sport?

I couldn’t choose! All of my sports—outdoor soccer, indoor soccer and volleyball—contribute to my athletic and character development.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning two championships last year.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Cristiano Ronaldo—he is skilled, humble and a great leader. He is a presence on and off the field.

What is your earliest sport memory?

Playing soccer as a toddler for team Germany for the Teaneck rec league.

What is your pregame routine?

Visualizing success to actualize success. In volleyball, I high-five my setter before every play.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Getting the last point in an overtime set with a kill.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Spending time with my friends and family.

What is the weirdest thing you witnessed on the field?

My (amazing!) soccer coach getting red carded in a semifinal game and getting kicked off the court.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Reflecting on the amazing seasons I’ve been blessed to have, facilitated by incredible coaches and teammates.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift at the Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
