Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Sariel Rotblat

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 13-year-old Sariel Rotblat as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey eighth grader was a key member of the championship team at inaugural season of Camp Mesorah’s Camp Overtime, this past summer. Rotblat was also a force on the RYNJ Jaguars’ first ever boys championship hockey team last year. A staff member at Camp Overtime told the JLNJ, “Sariel was a tremendous role model for others with his midos on and off the court.”

Sariel, congratulations on both championships! If you had to select one person, who would you say is your role model and why?

My brothers because they teach me not just to be a good player but also to be a good person.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the middle school hockey championships last year with RYNJ.

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

As a Capitals fan, Alex Ovechkin.

What is your pregame routine?

To stretch a little bit and not eat too much.

What is your earliest sport memory?

Playing instructional baseball with my father as the coach.

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while playing hockey?

In TABC Jr. hockey championship it was a zero-zero game, about to start overtime and the power went out and we had to play the whole game all over again.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Hang out with my friends.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Giving my grandparents nachas with this article.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift at the Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
