In a tense battle that showed just how far the Teaneck Under-8 All-Stars had advanced in their fall baseball league, our local team fell by a 4-1 score Sunday afternoon to the Rockland Elites in Congers, New York. Under sunny skies both teams featured stingy pitching and strong defense to determine the champion. Teaneck featured Zev Weiner, Ryan Buchsbayew and Liev Wolin on the mound and held the potent Rockland team to only four runs over five innings. But our boys could only muster a single run in a third inning that saw Teaneck load the bases with no outs. Despite the loss, what stood out in the game was how far the Teaneck squad had come during the course of its season. Earlier matches against the Rockland Elite squad had ended in lopsided defeats for Teaneck. In contrast, the championship game was very closely contested. Teaneck will be awarded the playoff silver medal as a result of qualifying to play in the championship game.
Full credit goes to the players: Zev Weiner, Noam Eckman, Ryan Buchsbayew, Liev Wolin, Ezra Berkowitz, Akiva Rotenberg, Josh Rothenberg, Eyal Kinderlehrer, Aron Major, Rafi Wall, Isaac Kantowitz, and Ben Rose. All had memorable moments this season at bat and in the field. Kudos also to Coaches Josh Buchsbayew, Ross Rothenberg and Adam Wall, who worked tirelessly to get the boys ready to compete while instilling good sportsmanship values. Thanks finally to all parents, grandparents, etc., for their support throughout the season!
