This week at Tenafly Chabad Academy, middle school girls participated in a special Challah Bake with their morot and administrators.
At the challah bake, Menahelet Rubenstein and Morah Weber explained the meaning behind every ingredient and the special mitzvah of hafrashat challah. The girls also learned about the three mitzvot that were given to all Jewish women, two of which these bat mitzvah girls can already perform (lighting Shabbat candles and making hafrashat challah). The girls then proceeded to make their own challah dough from scratch, making the appropriate blessing and shaping them into beautiful challahs.
The highlight of the day was watching the children biting into their challahs and asking for the recipe (especially the boys). The girls then shared their challahs with the staff at Tenafly Chabad Academy as well as bringing challah home for their Shabbat tables.
