Last week, I had the opportunity to hear one of the mothers of the hostages speak. A woman by the name of Einav Efrat spoke about her son, Ori, who is being held in captivity (May we see him come home very soon). After explaining to us that Ori got his friends out of the danger area, she told us that he went back in so that he could save people he had just met. Although her son has been captured, Einav explained that she says thank you to Hashem every morning and every night.
Not only does she say thank you, but she acted like Aaron HaKohen in a way. Like Aaron in this week’s parsha, she is silent. After two of Aaron’s sons die, it says וַיִּדֹּ֖ם אַֽהֲרֹֽן, meaning Aaron was silent. The act of silence is Einav Efrat. She speaks about her son and is loud about what is going on, but she is silent when questioning Hashem. She explained to us that she did and does not ask Hashem why. She trusts that it could have been worse and this is for our best. May we learn from Aaron in our past and Einav Efrat in our present to stay silent and not question Hashem, trusting He is doing what is best for us. May we see Ori ben Einav Efrat and all the hostages come home speedily.
