The Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week: Sara Yolkut

The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Sara Yolkut as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Yeshivat Frisch senior has been a huge part of the recent success of the Frisch girls basketball teams and recently signed to play with the Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women women’s basketball team in the fall. When asked about Yolkut, Frich head coach Kristin Rainbolt told The Jewish Link, “What’s there not to love about Sara Yalkut? This kid lives and breathes basketball. She works hard on her craft day in and day out striving to be the best. Not only is she a hard worker but she is a great student and friend to those around her. Sara is respected by her teammates and we will truly miss her next season!”

Sara, congrats on signing with the Yeshiva University team and for being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My grandfather z”l was a big sports fan and helped instill that passion in me. I know he would have been very proud to have watched me develop as a player.

What is your favorite sport?

Basketball, because it has taught me the value of hard work and helped me see that success comes through perseverance.

What is your pregame routine?

I get loose while listening to music; I do some light shooting, but always save time to hype up my teammates—this is a must for me.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Committing to play NCAA basketball at Stern College.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Nick Foles, because he came virtually out of nowhere (off the bench), ignored the doubters and delivered in the biggest moment by bringing a Super Bowl to Philadelphia. (Also, Joel Embiid.)

What is your favorite sports memory?

Winning multiple championships with my CMEK team, and running it back one more time this year before we all go off to Israel and college.

What is your earliest sports memory?

Watching Phillies games with my dad at night to avoid going to sleep. (Always worked).

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you on the court?

When I launched a half court buzzer-beater in MGBL, which went in but the ref called it off as a split-second late. Even the other coach fought for me!.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

It’s the first thing I open in the Link.

Please send nominees for an upcoming Drink Up Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
