The Humble Toast Sportstar of the Week: Ayelet Eizikovitz

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Ayelet Eizikovitz as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The senior at the Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls, continues to be a force in the MYHSAL as a multi-sport star.  When asked about Eizikovits, Ma’ayanot Rapids softball coach Yoni Lieber told The Jewish Link, “Ayelet, who has been on the softball team since her freshman year, has made many contributions both defensively and offensively. She is known for her consistent and smart plays as our second baseman. She is a power hitter, who bats clean up and many players on our team (including the coach) are sometimes afraid to pitch to her in practice. More importantly, Ayelet is an incredible team player who genuinely cares about all of her teammates. She always checks in on the younger players to make sure they are learning and giving them as much advice as she can. She brings an energy and passion to the team that gets everyone excited and motivated. She genuinely cares about the team, her teammates and, of course, winning. She has been a great role model for everyone on our team.” Ma’ayanot Athletic Director Jen Sanders added, “Ayelet has been on basketball for four years and has been named captain as a sophomore on JV, as a junior and finally as a senior on varsity.  She always puts her team first and shows dedication and commitment to her coaches and teammates. She is a natural leader and always gives 100%. Her teams look to her as their advocate and trust her to always have their back. Her coaches appreciate having a leader on the team that leads by example with poise and respect. Her talent and midot are admirable qualities that every coach and player wants in a captain.”

Ayelet, congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who are your role models and why?

My parents, because they work so hard for me and my siblings and still have time to carpool us to all our sports games and practices.

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sports are basketball and softball. I have always loved them since I was little and I love playing on a team and bonding with all my teammates.

What is your pregame routine?

Before my games I like to stretch and warm up, get some shots up or have a catch with my friends, and then get hyped up for the game with my team.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

One of my greatest sports memories is winning the softball championship in 10th grade.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

My dad is my favorite athlete. Not only is he an amazing athlete but he’s the one that got me into sports in the first place. My dad always encourages and supports me, teaches me new skills and helps me improve.

What is your earliest sports memory?

One of my earliest sports memories is playing T-Ball on a team with my brother and having my dad as a coach. I was one of the girls on the team and it was when I started playing one of my favorite sports.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

One of my weirdest sports memories is when I played against my 14-year-old sister in Hustle & Heart, because I had never played against her in a game and it was really fun.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

When I’m not playing sports I love hanging out with my friends and family.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Being in The Jewish Link and being recognized for my accomplishments.

The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
