The Humble Toast Sportstar Of the Week: Dahlia Bressman

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Dahlia Bressman as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 14-year-old eighth grader at the  SAR Academy is the goalie on the SAR girls hockey team. The Sting got off to a great start this season—3 and 0—with Bressman in goal. Dahlia told The Jewish Link, “I love reading The Jewish link weekly and the sports section always inspires me to try harder as a goalie.” Dahlia and the Sting hope to continue on their winning ways when the playoffs start next week.

Dahlia, happy birthday and congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My role model is Henrik Lundqvist because he was a goalie for the New York Rangers, just like I am a goalie for my hockey team. I am inspired by him because he was an incredible goalie who won MVP several times, and never gave up even at difficult times. He had a lot of determination and was able to successfully thrive in one of the most competitive hockey leagues.

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport to play is floor hockey because I enjoy that the game is fast paced, exciting and involves a lot of teamwork. I also love watching basketball because I like seeing the players’ strategies, quick reflexes and energy during an intense game.

What is your pregame routine?

Before my games I usually stretch for five minutes, do about 30 knee drops and have my teammates shoot on me.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

One of my greatest sports accomplishments was winning three hockey games so far this season with a lot of crazy saves.

Who is your favorite athlete?

One of my favorite athletes is Kevin Durant. He is a phenomenal basketball player with great talent. His famous quote “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard” inspires me because when I first started playing sports I wasn’t the most talented, but I knew that if I practiced hard enough, I would play well.

What is your earliest sports memory?

When I was little, my dad and I used to play basketball every Shabbos.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

When I’m not playing sports I enjoy baking, hanging out with friends and watching TV.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The best thing about being a Sportstar is feeling proud of yourself after a tough game. It is rewarding when my teammates congratulate me for my hard work after playing.

The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
