The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Elijah Fiskus as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 8-year-old, third grader at the Yavneh Academy is a huge sports fan. He loves watching the Giants, Rangers, Knicks and Yankees. He loves playing sports even more than watching. He’s always game to play football in the backyard or hockey in the basement with his friends. There’s not a day that goes by that he doesn’t ask me to have a catch or play something competitively. He has a big collection of sports cards including some graded cards, such as his prized Shaq rookie card. He is involved in sports leagues in the community having just completed the inaugural season of the TABC Jr. Hockey Pee-Wee league. Elijah scored two goals in the championship game leading his team to victory. He has played a few seasons of BCFL Football and CMEK Basketball. He is looking forward to the upcoming winter season for TABC Pee Wee hockey as well as MGBL basketball. And then BCFL and baseball in the spring. Most importantly Elijah is a good teammate and demonstrates great midot on and off the field.

My dad, because he plays sports with me.
What is your favorite sport?
Hockey, because it’s very active and I like moving around.
What is your pregame routine?
Hype my team up.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Winning the hockey championship.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Adam Fox, because he’s a good hockey player and he’s Jewish.
What is your earliest sports memory?
Playing baseball in the park with my friends.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Winning our playoff game against the Seahawks this past season.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Play Xbox with my friends.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
It’s cool to be in The Jewish Link.
