The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Naomi Newman as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The rising fifth grader at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of New Jersey loves playing and watching sports. She has been in basketball, soccer and softball leagues. She is also very good at gymnastics and is self taught in handstands, cartwheels and so much more! She is a star in the Yavneh Youth League Softball League and is usually “pitchers helper.” Her favorite part of softball is to hit the ball and run all the bases.
Naomi, congrats on the championship and on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who are your favorite athletes and why?
All of my cousins, because they’re all amazing athletes.
What is your favorite sport?
Baseball, because I’m good at it. I play in YYL Softball and am on the Reds team this year .
What is your pregame routine?
At softball we practice fielding, throw the balls to each other and play Flies Up.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
I caught two really high fly balls and I was in the softball championships last year .
What is your earliest sports memory?
Playing in a basketball league at 6 years old .
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
I like going to amusement parks, water parks, going on trips and birthday parties.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Going early to the Mets vs. Marlins baseball game. I got a hat signed by one of the Marlins coaches (who used to be a player ) and another player. The Marlins are the team my mom’s family roots for because they’re from Florida. The Marlins won!
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
I love playing in the softball league. Even when my team doesn’t win a game, I still enjoy it! I’m so excited to be in The Jewish Link and to get a Humble Toast gift card! I love the food there!
