The Idea School Virtual Classrooms Continue to Foster Creativity and Deep Learning

In our current reality, there is no better time than the present to engage students in challenging discussions about how their studies matter in the real world and outside of the classroom’s “virtual walls.” In science this week, the students’ studies are focused on the questions of “How can we use our knowledge of science to better the world?” Freshmen are investigating ecosystems, biomes and habitats as well as researching why African elephants are endangered while the sophomores are studying the chemistry of nuclear power and preparing to debate each other about using it to reduce carbon emissions. In humanities, sophomores are appropriately studying dystopias, looking at different political revolutions such as the French Revolution and discussing how our current situation relates to this. Online discussion boards in humanities are becoming a class favorite as students can virtually answer questions about a topic and respond to each other’s points giving everyone a chance to read, review and present their points of view.
