The Road to Tokyo: Team Israel to Play Two Local Teams

The Israeli Olympic Baseball Team is one of only six teams to qualify for this year’s baseball games in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. In order to honor the team and Israel, everyone is invited to see them play two exhibition games against local teams.

The first will be on Sunday, July 11, at 4 p.m. at Maimonides Park, located at 1904 Surf Ave, Coney Island, Brooklyn, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, against the FDNY. Makor Disability Services is a co-host for this game. Tickets can be purchased at www.brooklyncyclones.com or by calling 718-507-TIXX.

The second game will be on Monday, July 12, against the New York (Rockland) Boulders, at 6:30 p.m. at Palisades Credit Union Park, located in Pomona, New York. Tickets may be purchased at mpv.tickets.com or by calling 845-364-0009.

All little leagues and yeshiva baseball and softball teams are invited to attend wearing their team shirt to get a discount on tickets. The more people you bring, the more you save. Little league teams that have won championships will be announced and honored at both games, so contact the Cyclones or Boulders and let them know who you are. You also will have an opportunity to meet Team Israel and take pictures with them after the game.

Come show your support for Israel and their first Olympic team since 1974. Help fill the stands to support Team Israel. Playing on Team Israel will be former major leaguers Ian Kinsler, Danny Valencia, Ryan Lavarnway and Ty Kelly, and Coach Eric Holtz.

Although the games are during the Nine Days, rabbis have determined that it is permissible to attend these games since the proceeds are going to tzedakah. In addition, there will be strictly kosher food at both games and venues. There will be dairy food available, including chalav Yisrael products, and a siyum will be held for those who wish to eat glatt kosher hot dogs and burgers. There will be Mincha and Maariv minyanim as well at both stadiums at special designated locations.

Only in Brooklyn and Rockland can one have a baseball game that meets the strict halachic requirements necessary to honor Team Israel while showing support for Israel during these difficult times for the Jewish people.
