Varsity Ma’ayanot Rapids Basketball Tops Bruriah Lightning to Earn a Playoff Spot

On February 6, the Ma’ayanot Rapids played an intense and amazing game against the Bruriah Lightning. In the first quarter, the Rapids were in the lead with the score of 8-5. The points were scored by seniors Michal Horn and Rachelli Zomberg, each with a three pointer, and junior Leora Adler with a layup.

The Rapids scored another seven points in the second quarter with help from senior Alissa Felder with a layup, junior Sari Alexander with a three pointer and Elisheva Mirwis with a layup. The Rapids ended the second quarter leading by one point, with the score at 15-14. Junior Sari Alexander knocked down a buzzer beater from the baseline.

During the third quarter the score was close. Whether they were losing or winning the Rapids did not let the close score stop them from focusing on each play with a positive attitude and teamwork. The Rapids scored another eight points and ended the third quarter with the score tied at 23.

The Rapids played an intense fourth quarter as both teams kept scoring. With the Bruriah Lightning on their heels, the Rapids continued to try their hardest to maintain their lead. The Rapids scored another 15 points with help from senior Alissa Felder with two foul shots. Junior Sari Alexander added two foul shouts and a layup, for another three points for the Rapids. In addition, juniors Rebecca Malech with two layups and two foul shots, and Elisheva Mirwis with three fouls shots together added another nine points. The fourth period ended with the score 38-33, leaving the Ma’ayanot Rapids with the win. The Rapids played an amazing season filled with teamwork, positivity, energy and focus in each game. The varsity team now heads to the playoffs for the first time in several years.
