This week’s fourth grade unit in STEAM was centered on water and art. Students listed some properties of water and then were given glasses of water and several items. The challenge was to color the water. Tea and coffee easily colored the water but salt just dissolved without changing the color of the water. Then the students learned a little about Impressionism and Claude Monet. They saw that Monet liked to paint water lilies so we did, too. While creating their paintings, the students also noticed how the watercolors absorbed into the paper except in the areas where they had drawn with crayons.
