The WDS fifth grade took a trip to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut, as a culmination of their study of the Long Island Sound. In addition to exploring the aquarium, which highlights the biodiversity of the Long Island Sound, the students participated in a 60 minute class on the intertidal zone, during which they got to touch and observe some of the local wildlife, including horseshoe crabs, spider crabs, welks, oysters and more! The students got to tour the aquarium, where they pet sharks and stingrays, observed playful otters, gawked at the sharks and had a moment of quiet meditation at the jellyfish tank. Before leaving, they got to watch the harbor seal feeding and ask the naturalists questions about the seals. It was a great trip! Special thanks to the parent volunteers who helped drive the students!
