WDS students had the opportunity over Chol Hamoed to learn in the school sukkah with Rabbi Lookstein and Rabbi Klinger about the mitzvah of living in the sukkah. They discussed what it means for the sukkah to become a permanent home and the different activities people do in the sukkah during the week. Part of the discussion included how the sukkah is similar and different from our yearly homes. Middle school students studied various sources that show us how to best perform the mitzvah.
Later in the day, students built edible sukkot after learning with Rabbi Lookstein and Rabbi Klinger about the physical requirements of the sukkah. Students learned the minimum and maximum heights for a sukkah, while understanding that it must be stable against the weather. At the end, students enjoyed eating their sukkah!
