Westchester Torah Academy Celebrates 12th Annual Shomrei Torah Dinner

(Courtesy of WTA) WTA’s 12th Annual Shomrei Torah Dinner was a spectacular evening, honoring Morah Talia Michael with the Education Award, Nate Polachek with the Volunteer Award and Raquel and Judah Sosnick with the Community Award. The event brought together nearly 350 parents, grandparents, alumni, community leaders, rabbis and elected officials. Among the distinguished guests were: Rabbi Alter Shmuel Greenberg of Young Israel of White Plains, Rabbi Reuven Fink and Rabbi Chaim Axelrod of Young Israel of New Rochelle, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Westchester County Legislators Ken Jenkins and Judah Holstein and White Plains Council Member Justin Brasch.

The night began with a beautiful performance by two of the Israeli mishlachat teachers, who played the U.S. and Israeli national anthems on drums and piano, followed by an uplifting rendition of “Machashavot Tovot,” a song that encourages a positive and joyful mindset during difficult times. The audience was deeply engaged, singing along to the powerful message.

A significant highlight was the recognition of WTA’s first graduating class, who are now graduating from high school. This milestone marks an important moment in the school’s history, and several members of the class were in attendance. Some of the alumni recited Tehillim and shared their experiences, reflecting on how WTA laid the foundation for their future success.

Rabbi Avi Hoffman and Head of School Morah Deganit Ronen engaged in a heartfelt conversation about the school’s growth, the importance of remembering its roots, and staying true to WTA’s core values as the school expands. The evening also highlighted the school’s upcoming renovation and expansion plans to accommodate the growing community.

The impressive funds raised through the event will support WTA’s continued commitment to providing excellent education, meaningful programming and fostering a love of learning and Judaism among students.

It was a memorable evening filled with music, inspiration and reflection on how far the community has come. WTA is looking ahead to the next chapter, with excitement about the future—one full of good thoughts, good words and endless possibilities.
