Which Rates Are Important?

My original intent was to write an article about specific mortgage products that would be great for people living in this country. I hesitate to say our country.

This country was great and can still be great (with the right president). This country allows all of us the opportunity to be free, productive and successful. My uncles fought in World War II and my father was in the Korean War. My great-uncle Izzi Goodman was a doctor in World War II at a time when it wasn’t so easy for Jews to get into medical school. Now look where we are. We’re living, very well, in a country that is upside down. I’m asking myself, who can we trust and do we belong here? And more importantly, are we too comfortable and complacent where we are?

Are all the things we have contributed as a Jewish people appreciated by the people who live in this country? How is it possible after 9/11, the Boston marathon bombing and other numerous terrorist attacks and threats against this country, that all Americans, Jewish or not, are not up in arms against our enemies? Did I say our enemies? Anyone with any kind of intelligence should know that these protestors who burn the American flag and the Israeli flag are not only the Jewish people’s enemies, but the world’s.

Last month, Iran attacked Israel. Our president didn’t have the backbone to say he would stand with Israel and support them with our American troops. I’m disgusted and praying there was a method to Biden’s madness.

I can’t deny there are practical considerations as to why many of us are still living here. There are family dynamics and individual economics that realistically cloud the realities of moving to Israel. While we are here, living in the United States of America, maintaining an awareness and standing in the face of our politicians while keeping a presence in front of those people who are our nemeses are some of the ways we can combat the vermin who are on a mission to destroy without any practical benefits to anyone, let alone “their people.”

For the present, yes, rates might be important because we have practical financial considerations, but on a long-term basis, I think we have to ask ourselves, when it comes to mortgage financing in this country: Should we really care about rates? If so, maybe the only rate we should be caring about is the rate of antisemitism and hate that is spreading across this country, and the rate at which our government is showing cowardice and a big lack of tactical execution in protecting God’s “chosen people.”
