Women With Purpose Event Celebrates Power of Women to Make a Difference

Women’s Philanthropy of Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ is hosting a special morning for its donors on Thursday, April 11, 10 a.m. to noon at Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael in Springfield. The event, chaired by Alexandra Kerner and Jessica Silverstein, includes a breakfast buffet and an inspiring program.

Featured speaker Jeannie Smith is the daughter of Gentile Polish rescuer Irene Gut Opdyke. Irene received international recognition for her actions during the Holocaust while working for a high-ranking German official. Jeannie will share her mother’s riveting life story, which was told each night on Broadway in the nationally acclaimed play “Irena’s Vow” starring Tovah Feldshuh. Irene’s book, “In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer,” relays the detailed account of her life during World War II and is used in classrooms around the country. The Israeli Holocaust Commission named Irene one of the Righteous Among the Nations, a title given to those who risked their lives aiding and saving Jews during World War II.

This event is open to all women who give a minimum gift of $180 to the 2019 UJA Campaign. Registration fee is $54. To find out more and to register for the event visit www.jfedgmw.org/purpose . Questions? Contact Claudia Lukac at [email protected] or 973-929-3057.
