‘Wrong Choice’ for Inaugural Superfan

With ever-increasing agitation, I just finished reading Harry Glazer’s controversial article (if one can call it that) entitled “Spotlight on Ami Avraham” where Mr. Glazer has chosen Mr. Avraham to be the inaugural Jewish Link superfan of the month. I believe this to be a flagrant error as it is obvious that I should have been chosen for this honor.

One of the lessons I have learned from being an avid reader of The Jewish Link letters to the editor section is that before commencing the offensive against the author in question, one must start with a token positive statement. I, therefore, will state for the record that some of Mr. Glazer’s previous articles were not half bad. And word on the street is that he’s generally a nice guy.

With that out of the way, allow me to explain why I believe I should have been chosen to be superfan supreme.

For me, there is no Shabbos without The Jewish Link. Before COVID, I would pick up and start reading the latest Jewish Link as soon as I got to shul on Friday night with only minor interruptions such as Shemoneh Esrei. If there was an especially slow chazan, I may even have completed my first perusal, but usually, I would finish it at the dinner table with only minor interruptions such as kiddush and haMotzi. Third grade divrei Torah could wait. This is in contrast to Mr. Avraham, who not only waits until after dinner but also learns first before reading the paper.

Since COVID, I have had to be a bit more creative about getting The Jewish Link. Like Mr. Avraham, I may get it from Dunkin’ or Harry Glazer’s porch. Tonight I picked it up at Shoprite, which enabled me to read the paper and write this letter while it is still Thursday.

While I have the utmost respect for Mr. Avraham, I believe his status as superfan is undoubtedly in question as he has several other interests, which Mr. Glazer clearly attests to in the article. Not to be a ba’al lashon hara, but I have even heard rumors that Mr. Avraham reads other newspapers as well.

I demand that Mr. Glazer and The Jewish Link remedy this unfortunate situation posthaste.
