WTA Creates First-Ever Student Council

For the first time ever, the WTA middle school has elected their own Student Council! WTA has always been a school built on collaboration and feedback. The school has consistently asked families what works and what can be improved and prides itself on acting on those suggestions. The inception of a Student Council, however, takes this to a whole new level.

All middle school students were eligible for election to various positions, and after submitting an application to the dean of students they had three days to campaign. With approval from their faculty mentor, students had the chance to show off both their creativity and their drive to improve the school through their campaigning. They created posters with a variety of themes, learning to catch eyes with graphic design concepts and inspire fellow students with their ideas for a better middle school experience. Finally, on Friday, October 28, candidates had a chance to give their final presentations. Again, students used a wide range of skills, choosing to showcase their platforms through speeches, slideshows and even rap songs!

“It was an amazing experience, running for the student council,” said newly elected Student Council President Adam Jerome. “I was pretty nervous to present in front of all of middle school, but I think I did a pretty good job. I’m excited to share and implement my ideas! It’s going to be a great year!”

The school is immensely proud of its students for the work they put into this process. Moreover, it’s exciting to announce that the Student Council will be sitting for their first meeting this week, and they have a packed agenda. The group of future Jewish leaders will be planning fundraising events—both to fund their own proposals and to help the school continue its endless mission to provide a positive Jewish education experience to everyone, with dignity. Kol hakavod to the 2022-2023 Student Council and hatzlacha!
