In the final moments of Chanukah, Yavneh Academy’s seventh and eighth graders who are members of the Chesed Team joined Yachad at their center for a festive Chanukah party. Students first toured the training area that Yachad uses to educate their members. The party then began with Chanukah Bingo. Some Yavneh students played Chanukah music on keyboard and guitar. Dreidels that were decorated by the sixth grade Chesed Team members were distributed as gifts to the Yachad participants who engaged in some creative dreidel activities. Yachad members then received blank dreidels to decorate themselves. The evening ended with a choreographed dance by two eighth graders to the Maccabeats song “Candlelight.” This event was a wonderful way to end the chag on a high note. Students were reminded that Chanukah should not only be about receiving but, more importantly, should be about giving to others.
