Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

For a special night activity this past week, Yavneh Academy early childhood, first and second graders were invited to a pajama party for a RedHawks Read Zoom. The first and second grade children listened to Morah Shani read the story of “Milo and the Magical Stones” by Marcus Pfister. This story is about Milo the Mouse who makes an extraordinary discovery when he finds magical stones on an island. This book is unique in that it has two different endings for the readers to enjoy. The concept of having different endings is a lesson that we can all learn from in terms of the power of making choices. The children also spoke about how the name Milo the Mouse is an alliteration. The children did a great job thinking of other names and animals with alliterations!

Dr. Sarah Feit read “The Little Red Hen and the Passover Matzah” by Leslie Kimmelman to approximately 50 early childhood participants. With the help of four puppet friends, Little Red Hen, Sheep, Horse and Dog, the early childhood viewers watched the story come alive with interesting voices and animal noises. Children engaged by sharing predictions about whether the friends would help Little Red Hen prepare the matzah and whether Little Red Hen would include her friends in the Pesach Seder. At the end of the zoom, children shared the important lessons they learned about helping others, forgiveness and being kind.
